I had to share this small moment full of major impact from our amazing kids. It’s obvious that our students are one of a kind but my sentiments have been confirmed by Ahmaya (pictured on the right below) and Brianly (pictured in the middle below)!
Today, of their own volition, these ladies were helping the staff of Clean Sweep (specifically Ms. Blanca, Ms. Maria and Ms. Marta)!
It warmed my heart to see both ladies helping to support Blanca carry bags. No one asked them to do this but the kindness, leadership, and pride they have for this school is “A1.” To top this off, the ladies told me that after running club they have been helping out and have been supporting Clean Sweep for the past two weeks.
Happy Thursday, hope this makes you smile as much as it has made me smile.

6.) I’m not saying this is the right approach or the wrong approach but it is, I think, the most human approach –
I know the “slippery slope” argument that could be applied to this philosophy / line of thought.
My counter-argument to that –
We’ve all walked down slippery slopes before without falling. Why can’t there be a middle ground in a situation like this (and other situations similar to this)?
Because of the fear that every student will show up the next day out of dress code?
I’d rather choose to assume the best in people and navigate the consequences / conversations of that choice as they come.
(I definitely could be wrong.)

9.) From me: Teaching Is So Hard
There are days in February when teaching is so hard.
(Who am I kidding? Y’all teachers know that it’s hard all the time.)
But then you see your kids waiting in the dark for the bus after running four miles because they are training for a winter 10K and you know that they still have a few hours of homework left to do and (for some of them) siblings to help and (for others of them) dinner to cook and (for all of them) another bus (or two) to catch at 6:00 a.m. the next morning (not to mention the standard barrage of challenges that come with being a middle school student) and you realize that, yeah, teaching is hard but — at eleven and twelve and thirteen years old — your students actually work as hard (if not harder) than you and that’s a pretty sobering and enlightening and beautiful thought.

Energy is either created or destroyed.
Newton was right about physics, but in organizations and cultures, the opposite is true.
You’re either the person who creates energy.
Or you’re the one who destroys it.
You might be the one who initiates projects, who asks, “what if?” or eagerly says, “I’ll do it.” The person who finds and amplifies and supports the good work of others. The spark.
Or, it’s possible you’re the passive one, the naysayer, the bystander, the one who manages to eat the donuts at the meeting but not actually add much in the way of energy, kinetic or potential.
You can choose to be the generous one, putting in more than you take out, surprising everyone with a never-ending flow of generosity.
Or, you can find any of one hundred perfectly acceptable explanations/excuses/reasons why you’re merely an absorber of it.
DAMNNN.
Doesn’t that make you want to have the best day ever tomorrow / Friday / repeatedly???
